ABOUT ME
VALASSIA BARBOUTI (she/her) is a Set & Costume Designer (UAL) and Architect (NTUA) from Greece. She is currently based in London, studying Theatre and Performance Design at UAL and working across theatre, performance, film and temporary spaces. With a background in architecture, she sees space as something shaped by everyday life and human presence. In her diploma project she created a site-specific, scenographic trail on an inaccessible Cycladic island, attempting to explore the ways in which we interpret places from afar through oral stories and myths. After several years working in architecture, Valassia transitioned into film and theatre design, contributing to theatre productions, exhibitions, live events, and TV sets. She enjoys equally building worlds and building the set with her own hands. Her academic interests include memory, personal and public experience of space and human intimacy.
